Robbery
A robbery occurs if a person uses force, violence or threats to take another person’s money or property. The range of punishment depends on whether a firearm or deadly weapon was used during the robbery. For example, if a firearm or deadly weapon was used, you can be charged with a 1st degree felony punishable by up to life in prison, depending on the circumstances. Robbery by Sudden Snatching occurs if money or other property is taken from the victims person, and the victim is aware the money or property is being taken from them. The State need not prove excessive force or resistance from the victim. This offense is a second degree felony if a firearm or other deadly weapon was carried by the accused, and a third degree felony if no firearm or deadly weapon was carried.
